• Ingredients and Active components
ASCORPHYT 100 Chewable tablets are made from a standardized dry extract of fruits of Acerola (Barbados cherry).
Each tablet contains ascorbic acid (Natural vitamin C) 100 mg.

• How ASCORPHYT 100 works
Ascorbic acid is necessary for the synthesis of collagen and tissue restoration. It is also necessary for immune system function and prevention of vascular fragility. Moreover, it is involved in some oxidation and reduction reactions and in the metabolism of Phenyl Alanine, Tyrosine, Folic acid, Norepinephrine, Histamine and Iron, various enzyme systems, Carbohydrate consumption, and Synthesis of Lipids, Proteins and Carnitine.
• Before you use ASCORPHYT 100
Who NOT to take it
- Individuals with a history of allergic reactions against Malpighiaceae species or vitamin C.
- Patients with a history of recurrent urinary stone formation (oxalate, urate, and cysteine types).
- Patients who have to take fecal occult blood test.
- Individuals on a sodium restricted diet or individuals being treated with anticoagulant drugs should not receive high doses of vitamin C over a long-term treatment period.
- High doses of ascorbic acid cause hemolysis in patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiencies.
Use during Pregnancy and Lactation
As there is not enough evidence, the use of this drug is NOT recommended during pregnancy and lactation.
• Taking ASCORPHYT 100
How and when to take it
- Adults: 2-3 tablets a day
- Children over 2 years old: 1-2 tablets a day
- Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for prevention of Vitamin C deficiency:
- Adults: 50-60 mg a day
- Children 4-8 years old: 25 mg a day
How long to take it
In case of any physician recommendation, continue taking it until the visible symptoms of deficiency have improved.
What to do if you miss a dose
If you miss a dose of Vitamin C, try to take it as soon as remember if it’s almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses of the supplement at the same time.
• While you are taking ASCORPHYT 100
Things you must do
- High doses of vitamin C should be discontinued gradually.
Things you must not do
- Individuals under the treatment with anti-coagulant drugs should not receive high doses of Vitamin C over a long term treatment period, because it decreases the therapeutic effects of drugs such as warfarin, Lepirudin, and Heparin.
Things to be careful of
- Concurrent use of ASCORPHYT 100 with estrogen drugs and contraceptives, causes increase in the therapeutic effects of these drugs and may occur side effects.
- The concurrent use of Fluphenazine with Vitamin C reduces the therapeutic effects of this drug. Patients using Fluphenazine must consult their physician before taking ASCORPHYT 100.
- High doses of ascorbic acid increases the pH of the small intestine causing interfering with B12 absorption.
- The need for vitamin C increases in patients with chronic diseases, diseases accompanying fevers, blood vessel disorders, and going through wound healing.
- Consumption of high doses of vitamin C increases the absorption of iron.
• Side effects
Nausea, vomiting, fatigue, abdominal cramps, insomnia, sediment in the joints due to gout disease (due to the increase of Uric acid) and diarrhea (at doses equal to or higher than 1 g). In high doses, vitamin C might increase the chance of urate, oxalate, and cysteine kidney stones in patients with a history of stone formation.

Storage
- Store in a dry place, keep away from direct sunlight and below 25 °C.
- Keep out of sight and reach of children.
Disposal
Do not put into sewer lines. Dispose in the everyday rubbish bin.
