SENA-LAX
 •    Ingredients and active components
Sena-Lax tablet is made from sterilized standardized dried Senna leaves (Cassia angustifolia L.) and coriander seeds (Coriandrum sativum L.).
Each tablet of Sena-Lax contains 483 mg dried Senna leaves.
 

•    What SENA-LAX is used for 
Treatment of Non-obstructive and Chronic Constipations
 

•    How SENA-LAX works 
The therapeutic effect of Senna is due to its Anthraquinone (Hydroxy Anthracene) glycosides (especially A and B Sennosides). Sennosides A and B are metabolized by the bacteria in the colon and are converted to active metabolites such as Rheinnthron. Rheinnthron:

1. Increases the synthesis and secretion of prostaglandins, especially PGE2, in the colon. So it causes:

• stimulation of peristaltic contractions, inhibition of local contractions of muscles of the large intestine,
• Secretion of fluids and electrolytes into the intestinal lumen (increasing the secretion of mucosa and active chlorides) and helps defecation.

1. Reduces intestinal fluid absorption.

Furthermore, Senna contains histamine and 5-Hydroxy Triptamine (5-HT) that have purgative effect.
 

•    Before you use SENA-LAX
‎When NOT to take it 

• Children under than 6 years,
• Intestinal obstruction or stenosis, colic and rectal bleeding with unknown etiology, inflammatory bowel diseases, appendicitis, anal prolapsed and hemorrhoid.

Use during Pregnancy and Lactation
NOT to be taken during pregnancy and lactation.
 

•    Taking SENA-LAX
‎How and when to ‎take it 
Tablets: As laxative: children 6-12 years: 1 tablet daily, Adults: 1-2 tablets daily.
              As purgative: children 6-12 years: 2 tablet daily, Adults 2-4 tablets three times daily.
 
It is recommended to take this medicine at bed time, since it takes 8-10 hours for Sena-Lax to show its effect.
How long to take it 
Sena-Lax tablet should not be taken for more than 10 days continuously.
‎What to do if you miss a dose 
If you miss a dose of Sena-Lax, try to take it as soon as remember if it’s almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses of it at the same time.
 

•    While you are taking SENA-LAX
‎Things you must do‎ 

• Drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water is necessary. This helps soften the stool and prevent water loss.

‎Things you ‎must not do ‎ 
Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Sena-Lax tablet should not be taken for more than 10 days continuously.

‎Things to be careful of‎ 

• Sena-Lax changes urine color and increases the urinary pH (may change urine color to red when the urine is alkaline and to brown then the urine is acidic. It may interact with diagnostic laboratory tests (such as measurement of urine urobilinogen and estrogen measurement by Cooper method).
• Products containing Senna interact with blood potassium lowering drugs such as thiazide diuretics, adrenocorticosteroids, liquorice, cardiac glycosides, antiarrhythmic drugs, and possibly cause cardiac and nerve-muscle disorders.
• Sena-Lax prevents estrogen absorption and decreases its serum level.
• Indomethacin and nifedipine decrease the effectiveness of Sena-Lax.

 
•    Side effects 

• Consuming Senna alone may cause abdominal pain and cramps, but Sena-Lax does not have this side effect because the tablet contains coriander seeds and the syrup contains coriander seed oil, which have antispasmodic effects.
• It has been observed that people who take anthraquinone laxatives over a long period, melanotic pigmentation of intestinal mucosa (melanosis coli) occurs. This effect will be alleviated by stopping use of this medicinal supplement within 4-6 weeks.
• Long term use of anthraquinone laxatives may cause dependencies.
• Overdose of this medicine may lead to diarrhea, loss of fluids and electrolytes, nephritis, hematuria, albuminuria, and urinary and intestinal disorders.

‎Storage 

• Store in a dry place, keep away from direct sunlight and below 25 °C.
• Keep out of sight and reach of children.

‎Disposal 
Do not put into sewer lines. Dispose of in the everyday rubbish bin.‎
